Biography

Husein Mohammad Salem Al Meeza is considered as one of the most reputable figures of the Islamic Banking and Insurance industry. He was awarded ‘The Islamic Banker of the Year' for 2006 at the 13th Annual of World Islamic Banking Conference in Bahrain.
Al Meeza is a UAE national who graduated with a degree in Business Commerce from Beirut Arab University - Beirut, MBA from La Jolla University USA. He started his career in 1975 when he joined the world's first fully fledged Islamic Bank, Dubai Islamic Bank.
During his 27 years of experience with DIB he has played key role in the development of the bank and headed several prestigious positions such as Branch Manager in Dubai, Regional Manager in Abu Dhabi, and acting General manger. Upon his departure he was the Executive Director of the Corporate Banking division.
Husein AL Meeza had played an essential role in companies that have shaped the Economy of the UAE and the Gulf region. He was a founder of EMAAR Properties, EMAAR financial services, and AMLAK finance whereby he used to be a Board Member and the Chairman of the Executive Committee. Al Meeza was also a founder of Dubai Islamic Insurance and Reinsurance - AMAN where he was the Managing Director and CEO. In Bahrain, Al Meeza occupied positions of which - the Chairman of the Executive Committee at the Islamic Trading Company, and the Chairman of Liquidity Management Centre.
His landmark achievement was the establishment of Al Salam Banks. Apart from being a founding member in all three banks in Sudan, Bahrain and Algeria, Husein Al Meeza is also the Vice Chairman and the Chairman of the Executive Committee of Salam Bank Algeria, and Salam Bank Sudan .
